Recaro is known worldwide as a leader in racing and car seats and has been manufacturing safe, high quality automotive products for over 100 years. The Recaro Proseries is the newest line in the Recaro family of children car seats, replacing the Como and Signo lines. The Recaro ProRide combines several features found in the Como and Signo lines.
First, let’s go over the technical features! Weighing in at approximately 20.5 lbs (not too heavy, not too light), the seat is rated rear facing for a child between 5-35lbs and who have a standing height of 37.5 inches or less or who’s seated height is 22.5 inches or less. Forward facing, the seat is rated at an amazing 20-70lbs for the weight and who have a standing height of 50 inches or less and a seated height of 27.5 inches or less, which means this seat will last at least through kindergarten! It features pronounced and soft head wings which are easy to adjust. The harness is a 5-point harness with a front adjustable harness for easy adjustments and adjustment knobs on the side of the seat for height. It features a LATCH system (complete with a LATCH storage system when not in use) which can be used rear or forward facing as well as slots should you rather choose to use your car’s seatbelt to secure the car seat. Forward facing, it features a Belt Lockoff system which locks the car’s seatbelt in the belt path for optimal safety and a top tether which is conveniently stored in its own pouch attached to the seat. The seat itself is constructed to minimize head, face, neck, torso and pelvis injuries thanks to the oversized wings and shell (which is reinforced with EPS Energy Absorbing Foam). An outstanding feature of this seat is that it is certified for use in an aircraft both rear AND forward facing!
Now let’s talk about the installation. Instructions for installing the seat were very clear, straightforward and it helped that there were actual photos for each step of the installation. Installation was a breeze. I was able to get this in my car in less than 15 minutes (not bad for a girl. I must say, my husband was hovering the entire time, but since he doesn’t bother reading instructions, I felt it was better for me to install it instead)! One thing I would change is to have a level indicator instead of a sticker with a red line on it as it is hard to just “eyeball” when the seat is level.
Getting my son adjusted in the seat, who is a wiggly 8.5 month old, 22lbs and 29 inches tall baby, was a breeze. Simply lift the adjuster flap located near the front of the seat, lift the metal part and pull on the harness to loosen. To tighten the seat, pull on the adjuster strap until the harness is snug against your baby. The harness system adjusts with the head restraint. No need to rethread which is an excellent feature!
The material on this seat is very breathable, perfect for my very sweaty child. It features mesh along the sides of the seat to aid in ventilation and feels very plush and comfortable. My son, who hated his infant car seat, didn’t make a peep whether we placed him in or took him out of the seat. Taking the material off for cleaning is extremely easy by pulling on a few key areas where the material is attached to the seat shell. If you don’t know how to put it back on, the instruction manual lists every step complete with photos! The colors that the Recaro ProRide comes in are Misty (Grey), Midnight (Black) and Blue Opal (Black with Blue accents in the center). These colors are great for those who have boys, but admittedly are not very girly.
The Recaro ProRide is an excellent seat which will last us a very long time, thanks to its high weight limit. I love the ease of install and adjustment of the harness as well as all of the safety features included in the seat. My husband loves that it’s a Recaro brand seat, which makes him feel safer knowing the history of Recaro seats (okay, let’s be honest; he just likes saying our son is in a Recaro seat!).
