The Bumbleride Indie had a minor makeover for 2013. It hasn’t changed that much in a couple years, but this year is different, so we thought it was time for a new full review! First, we will highlight the changes and then we’ll get into the nitty-gritty.
NEW FABRICS: The entire Bumbleride collection will now come in the Natural fabric. That’s right, the “Movement” and the “Classic” are out and the eco-friendly fabrics are all in. We’re really happy with this change because we like the Natural fabrics. The interior of the stroller is made of a bamboo, nylon blend that will wick away moisture from the little rider’s body and the exterior fabric on the Natural Edition strollers is made of a recycled polyester blend.
NEW COLORS for 2013: Jet Black, Aquamarine, Cayenne Red, Fog Grey, Green Papyrus, and Lotus (pink/blue)
BUMPER BAR: Included Bumper Bar (adjusts down just for fold)
FOOTREST: New footrest and foot well making it better suited for larger toddlers and jogging.
CAR SEAT ADAPTER: Universal Car Seat Adapter Bar now included
NEW HARNESS: A new harness features a stronger center release button and 3 to 5 point breakaway shoulder straps which help with a faster connection and prevents entanglement.
IMPROVED PEEK-A-BOO WINDOW: Dark mesh peek-a-boo window
The Bumbleride Indie is one of our favorite all-terrain strollers. It combines sport with style and gives you all the features you need in an everyday stroller.
Let’s start with the new fabrics. The “Movement” and “Classic” fabrics of yesteryear are out and the Natural fabric is in. The Indie is only available in the eco-friendly fabrics that consist of a bamboo, nylon blend interior to wick away moisture from the little rider’s body and recycled polyester blend exterior.
The seat is roomy and accommodates up to 45 lbs. It measures 13″ wide, with a 19″ seat back and a measurement of 23″ from seat to canopy. The adjustable, padded 5-point harness has been modified for 2013 with a stronger center release button and 3 to 5 point breakaway shoulder straps which help with a faster connection and prevents entanglement. While the harness does “break away” (which can be annoying on some strollers!), we are happy that the Indie’s harness does stay clipped together when we want it to so that it doesn’t come apart every time we take our child out of the seat.
The seat reclines nearly flat with a one-hand strap system. (You need two hands to put the seat back up though!) If you raise up the leg rest, snap it to the seat fabric and recline the seat fully, you can create a bassinet-like environment for your newborn. Yes, this is a stroller you can use right home from the hospital.
Speaking of the leg rest, the Indie sports a new footrest and foot well making it better suited for larger toddlers and jogging. There is a easy-to-clean foot well that is 11″ from the seat (I call that the “leg drop measurement” in the video!) with an adjustable leg rest for the comfort of your little rider.
Under the seat, the Indie has a very large, accessible basket to accommodate a bunch of baby essentials or a very large diaper bag. There is also a small zipper pocket on the back of the canopy and a bottle holder on the side of the handle.
The adjustable handle is great for both short and tall parents. It adjusts from 25″ from ground to handle to 43″. Since it is a one-piece solid handlebar, it makes for easy one-hand maneuverability.
We have always loved the Bumbleride canopy and we are still very happy with it. It’s a full-coverage, 45-SPF canopy that sports a new darker mesh peek-a-boo window.
WHEELS and FOLD:
The Indie’s three 12″ air-filled tires combined with the stroller suspension provide a very smooth ride for baby and a super easy push for mom. The front wheel is a 360 degree swivel wheel that has the ability to lock straight for rougher terrain. A brake bar locks the stroller into place easily with just one step.
The Indie folds in half, making transporting this stroller convenient regarding the size. There are three easy steps to folding the Indie. Fold down the baby bumper bar, lift two levers on the sides of the handlebar, push the handlebar forward and then pull up on the large strap that is behind the seat to fold the stroller. It basically folds in half. There are two manual locks on each side of the stroller that keep it closed and secure while folded. We aren’t going to lie though, we are hoping for an automatic lock for 2014!
The Indie comes standard now with the baby bumper bar and the universal car seat adapter that works with Chicco, Graco, Peg Perego, Britax, Combi and Baby Trend infant car seats. Check the Bumbleride website to make sure your seat is compatible.
There are other accessories sold separately for the Indie that include a footmuff/seat liner, travel bag, carrycot, rain shield, Parent Pack and Snack Pack.
As we expect from Bumbleride each year, there are new colors. The colors for 2013 are: Cayenne Red, Fog Grey, Jet Black, Papyrus Green, Aquamarine, Lotus Pink and Lotus Blue.
Overall, the Bumbleride Indie is a sporty alternative to the traditional 4-wheel stroller and has more convenience features than a jogging stroller. If you are looking for a beautiful, head-turning, all-terrain stroller friendly for everyday use, then the Indie might be the stroller for you.
