Halloween Candy Corn Marshmallow Ghosts

Sharing is caring!

Halloween is one of our family’s favorite holidays. My kids love it. I love it. The grandparents even love it. And when I say the grandparents love it, I mean they completely transform their house into a Halloween masterpiece every year. You’ve never seen two grandparents put in so much time into spider webs, creepy butler/monster statues that meet you at the front door and Halloween decor than these two people. Seriously, they take Halloween to a whole new level.

We aren’t as crazy about the decor as they are but we do love the Halloween goodies. We start at the beginning of October and make all types of Halloween treats until the night of October 31 where it all ends in gorging ourselves with our favorite mini candy bars. Sure, the kids get some too – it’s not just me and the hubby.

One of the easy-peasy treats that I make each year are the Candy Corn Marshmallow Ghosts that I discovered a few years ago. They are super easy to make, the kids can help and they are yummy. And no, they don’t taste like candy corn at all, which is perfect for me because I’m not a candy corn person.

Since we started sharing kid-friendly food ideas on Baby Gizmo this year, I decided it would be a perfect time to make these little guys and get the camera out to share it with you.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag of Marshmallows (Big or GIANT marshmallows will work!)
  • 8-10 oz of white chocolate
  • Vegetable Oil (to thin the chocolate)
  • Yellow Food Coloring
  • Orange Food Coloring
  • Black Gel Icing

Instructions:

  1. In the microwave or in a double boiler, carefully melt the chocolate.
  2. Once melted, divide the chocolate evenly into two bowls. Add enough yellow food coloring to one bowl until the desired yellow shade is achieved. Then add orange food coloring to the other bowl to get the desired shade of orange. *Hint: To make it easier to dip the marshmallows, I thin out the chocolate by mixing in about 1 tsp of vegetable oil.
  3. Dip a marshmallow in the orange first about 1/3 of the way up and then set on a piece parchment paper.  Repeat with the rest of the marshmallows until you use up all the orange chocolate.
  4. Put the marshmallows in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to set the chocolate.
  5. Remove from fridge and repeat, only half-way up the orange, with the yellow chocolate.  Set on parchment or wax paper.
  6. Finish by dotting two circles with the gel tube to form the eyes. Let the chocolate set and then enjoy!

This is a great snack/treat to make the day before and keep in the freezer. I made them this past weekend for a neighborhood party and it only took about 30 minutes out of the freezer for the marshmallows to thaw and they were very fresh when we arrived at the party.
