Five Minute Mom Makeover

I know there are a lot of moms out there who do their hair, makeup, and dress up everyday. I used to be one of them. Things have changed. I no longer work outside the home and have to admit I am guilty of getting stuck in a rut when it comes to my appearance. The only reason I used to shower, do my hair and makeup, and throw on some business casual is because my husband and I worked for the same company. It would have been embarrassing for him to stroll in everyday with his Bigfoot looking wife. I promise if it wasn’t because I am a super considerate wife I would’ve gone to work looking a mess often. Motherhood has kicked my butt in some ways.

It isn’t that I don’t care about my looks. I have very little recreational time during the day and try to spend my time wisely. Some days I don’t have any face to face interaction with anyone besides the kids so I don’t bother. Well, one day I happened to catch a glimpse of my haggard self and I decided I had enough. I made a vow to make a minimal effort every morning to spruce up my face a little bit. It makes me feel better. I enjoy looking nice. Who wants to look like a crazed hobo?

Here is my five minute routine:

Tinted moisturizer: I use Laura Mercier. It is incredible. The moisturizer provides natural coverage and makes your skin glow. Don’t let the price scare you off. The tube lasts forever. Sometimes I mix it with a plain moisturizer like Cetaphil on days I don’t need as much coverage and this stretches the tube even further. Head to Sephora or Ulta, ask for some samples, and take them home. It took me a few tries to find the perfect moisturizer but once I did it was worth the wait and effort.

All in One Stick: I use “The Multiple” by Nars. Once again don’t let the price fool you. This tube also goes a long way and is an excellent multitasker. After you apply your moisturizer swipe a little on your eyes, cheeks, and/or lips. That’s it. So easy and speedy.

Mascara: I used to be a mascara snob. I could never find a drugstore brand I liked and would spend upwards of $30 per tube. I’ve used everything from Givenchy to Bare Escentuals. I finally found an affordable and impressive solution. Maybelline’s “The Falsies” mascara is awesome! You don’t have to curl your eyelashes or apply coat after coat to get impressive curl or coverage. You get the impressive look pf painstakingly curled lashes at a fraction of the time. For $5.00 it is worth a try.

Tinted Lip Balm: I have tubes everywhere. If you’ve already applied an all in one stick coat plain old Vaseline works fine. If you like a little more color then I recommend Rosebud Salve. It is inexpensive, lasts near an eternity, and can be used for a variety of purposes. It treats dry skin, diaper rash, and even unruly eyebrows. For $6.00 this stuff is a steal.

I agree, tinted moisturizer, tinted lip balm, and mascara and if I really want to look dolled up, eyeliner. Now, if there was only a 5 minute makeover for the rest of my body!

Bronzer. It’s an instant pick-me-up! And, oddly, eyebrow powder. I was in a wedding recently and bought new makeup when I realized mine was ancient. The lady at the Clinique counter totally sold me on eyebrow powder, something I would have previously thought completely superfluous. It’s amazing the difference it makes. That, bronzer, and lip gloss and I instantly feel better.
