Back-to-school fashions for the girls!

Since all I do is mainly write about fashion, it’s funny when someone asked me the other day what the back-to-school trends were for kids. Well, in a nut-shell…it’s everything that’s “in” for adults but shrunk-up into tiny, cuter packaging with less cleavage and legs to be shown — which is all a good thing in my book. For now we’ve gone beyond the days of our little girls and tweens wanting to dress like Hannah Montana with too short skirts and tube tops to more age appropriate clothing like animal print cardigans, ruffle skirts and color-blocked sweater dresses.

It’s so cute to see them get excited about their first day at school and have the first day outfit all laid out the night before so they’re ready-to-wear in the morning. What’s more fun is the shopping for the fashions — well, at least I get excited about it. I learned my lesson long ago that once they pass a certain age (usually about two) that they are adamant about what they will wear and not wear. I’m sure you’ve already experienced this too. So be wise this back-to-school season and either take them with you to do the shopping or let them sit with you as you browse about online for the best deals and steals while also getting the best looks!

Here’s a few of my favorite trends for the girls this fall season…

You can’t go wrong with a little black jacket this season! Band Jacket, $36.95, at gap.com.

Color-blocking is still in for fall. Stripe Pleated Sweater Jumper, $33.99, at gymboree.com.

The ballerina look is in — lots of ruffles and tulle! Tulle Skirt, $32.50, at jcrew.com.

It’s time to look like Little Red Riding Hood…except you can wear a cape in any color this season! Hooded Jersey-Fleece Cape, $24.94, at oldnavy.com.

It’s all about animal prints this season — they’ll go wild for a leopard cardigan, skirt, shoes or dress! Leopard Tutu Skirt, $19.99, at childrensplace.com.

And how about some shiny boots to top it all off…! Nordstrom Casey Boot, $59.95, at nordstrom.com.

Which mini-trend are you wanting to wear this season? Don’t worry, I’m sure we can find them in adult sizes too!
