Chicco Activ3 Stroller Review (VIDEO)

Don’t look now but Chicco has stepped up their game in the active stroller world. The Chicco Activ3 is coming out in January 2014 and I couldn’t be more excited about it. An all-terrain, jogging stroller with a huge canopy, adjustable suspension, roomy seat, adjustable (tall!) handlebar and a reasonable price? Yes, please.

The Activ3 seat is roomy and accommodates up to 50 lbs. It measures 13″ wide, with a 20″ seat back and a measurement of 26″ from seat back to canopy. A padded, 5-point harness keeps yours babe safely in the seat and the footrest keeps their legs comfy while still being easy to wipe clean. The removable baby bumper does double duty as a bumper bar and car seat adapter for the Chicco KeyFit.

The recline is an easy-to-do, one-handed recline that has four positions and the stroller fabric is removable for hand-washing.

The basket underneath the seat is very roomy for an all-terrain/jogging stroller and can be accessed easily from the back or sides. While other brands stop there at storage, we love that Chicco took it a step further and also gave us a parent tray on the handle bar that can hold two bottles (or cups!) and a center section for a phone or iPod.

Canopy size matters with sport strollers! Chicco gave us the most fabulous, full-coverage canopy that you can get. It folds all the way down to the baby bumper bar! Whoot! Whoot! There is also a peek-a-boo window on top of the canopy to sneak a peek at the rider.

It’s hard and awkward for taller parents to run with a stroller with a short handlebar. That’s why we LOVE-LOVE-LOVE the handle on the Activ3. It is one of the tallest on the market adjusting from 39″ to 45″ from ground to handle.

The 12″ no-flat, rubber wheels are fantastic for sport use on the Activ3. No need to worry about a flat on this baby or carrying a tire pump. The wheels, coupled with the adjustable suspension, make using this stroller in sport-use or trail-use a breeze. The adjustable suspension can be switched from firm to bumpy terrain with the flip of your foot.

The front wheel is a swivel wheel that has the ability to lock straight. No need to bend down to lock the wheel though because the handy front wheel lock is right on the handlebar. There is also a parking brake that is engaged with a lever on the handlebar. This is brilliant so in case the runner has a long stride, there is no chance of them accidentally kicking the parking brake and engaging it mid-run.

This stroller has a one-handed, easy fold. Push a grey button with your thumb while twisting the handle and the Activ3 folds down into a standing fold and automatically locks. Don’t have to bend down at all to fold this baby! If you would like to make it more compact, the front wheel does fold in. Unfold is just as easy by twisting the same fold lever to unlock and unfold all at the same time.

While you should never use a stroller in sport-mode with a newborn, the Activ3 does have the ability to turn into a travel system with a Chicco KeyFit infant seat. Plus, no need to purchase any additional adapters because the baby bumper bar is the adapter.

Overall, I can’t find much wrong with the Chicco Activ3. If I were being picky, I’d add a second mesh peek-a-boo window on the back panel of the canopy and change the cover to have magnetic closures instead of Velcro but that’s it. This one is a good one! It will retail for $299 and be available in January 2014.

*Disclosure: Thanks to Chicco for sending us an Activ3 for use on the FOX Good Day Chicago TV segment. I took it a step further to give you a full review. As always, all our thoughts, opinions and statements are our own.
