GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification Program

As moms are becoming more and more interested in eco-friendly products, we wanted to bring attention to a great non-profit organization that certifies products used indoors in our homes and children’s schools with rigorous standards that address the unique sensitivities of infants and children.

With children spending about 85% of their time indoors, parents may be concerned over pollutants and their impact on children’s health due to indoor air pollution.  Indoors air is two to five times more polluted than the outdoor air caused by a variety of products in our homes and schools such as furnishings, flooring, electronics, window treatments, mattresses, cleaners and paints.

GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification Program offers a solution to parents concerned about indoor air quality.   The GREENGUARD Children & Schools standard is overseen by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI), an industry independent, non-profit organization.  The Institute’s mission is to improve human health and quality of life through programs that improve indoor air, tests and certifies indoor products based on strict chemical emissions criteria.

The GREENGUARD Children & Schools standard takes into account the special sensitivities of children and incorporates some of the most stringent product emissions criteria.  This standard requires that everyday products meet strict emission levels of pollutants including VOCs, phthalates and respirable particles.

The GREENGUARD Children & Schools certification mark can be found on more than 110,000 products produced by over 100 manufacturers.

Here are some everyday products that have undergone vigorous testing, follow stringent indoor air quality requirements and are GREENGUARD Children & Schools certified:
