It’s getting to that time of year again – we are eager to get outside! Yet, at the same time, looking for ways to stay cool outdoors. Is that a contradiction? Yes, probably. We want to be outside to enjoy the warmer temperatures, but we need a quick and easy way to cool off.
Enter the beloved water table. It’s been a staple at every single toddler’s home I’ve visited recently. I’ve / we’ve had our fair share of playtime with a variety of water tables, and I finally bit the bullet and purchased our own.
Water tables, in general, are fantastic! Toddlers love to play in water. There are a lot of different options for purchasing your own water table, too. They seem to range anywhere from $20 to $100+, depending on how large and fancy they get. After doing some research (and not finding any at local yard sales), I decided to purchase the Little Tikes Spiralin’ Seas Water Table. it was on sale and it looked like it had a few different features.
The water table was pretty easy to assemble – about 10 minutes total. Most pieces snapped together, although the middle spiral gets screwed together with a few small screws.
The table’s features, that I mentioned above, are quite entertaining to my (almost) 2 year old. The center spiral is his favorite, but he also loves to spin the ‘ferris wheel’ and watch the balls shoot out. There is also a funnel which, when filled with water, spins a wheel. My son loves this, as it reminds him of a water wheel in one of his favorite books (Pancakes, Pancakes! if you’re wondering). Then a small green wheel, when spun, creates waves throughout the water. A red cup with a handle is also included in the set.
The set comes with five small balls that are meant to go through the spiral and also in the ferris wheel. The balls have a hole in them to make them squirting toys. I actually hot-glued those holes shut, as I do with all squirting/bath toys, so that they don’t get moldy inside.
The table holds seven gallons of water, which I find to be a good amount especially for this age, and has a small drain plug which makes it easy to empty.
My son loves this toy, and that’s the most important part of this review. There are enough play elements that keep him entertained. I also find that there’s enough empty ‘space’ to just splash around if that’s what he wants to do.
I only have one main issue with the table, and hopefully it is being resolved as I type this. So, the center spiral is a very cool feature – when it works. Kind of more often than I think appropriate, the balls get stuck in the spiral. Also, the green ball (one of five provided balls) absolutely does not fit down the spiral. I called Little Tikes’s customer service to ask them about this issue and they are promptly sending me a replacement spiral and a new set of squirter balls to see if that resolves the issue. They were wonderful to deal with, so I do hope this replacement helps the table work better.
Other than this one small issue, I have been very happy with this purchase. It keeps my toddler entertained and occupied, which is all I can ask from any toy we own right now! The Little Tikes Spiralin Seas Waterpark Table currently retails for $44.99.
