Moms are amazing! Seriously, moms are the best, right? I’m not just saying that because I’m a mom because my appreciation for moms has multiplied 10 fold since becoming a mom over 9 years ago.
The work, sacrifice, love and overall amazing-ness of a mom (and anyone in a “mom role” – stepmoms, grandmas or guardians!) is truly grand. Remember last week when I told you that I don’t usually talk about my family here but I did tell you more about my own mom. Today, I’m talking about my mother-in-law. It only seems right with Mother’s Day around the corner and the fact that she is one of the other “moms” that is so special in my life. I’m lucky enough to have three “moms” in my life – my mom, my stepmom and my mother-in-law.
So, THE mother-in-law! Seriously folks, I really lucked out with this one. With all the horror stories of mother-in-laws, I feel like I won the lottery with mine. She is ahhh-mazing! I know everyone, including myself, throws around the “ahh-mazing” word but she really is. I knew from the very first time I met her 18 years ago, I would like her.
She is patient, kind, caring, thoughtful, non-judgmental, non-intrusive and loving. That is a crazy list for a mother-in-law, right?!
Truth is that she is all of those things plus more! She is the type of mother who finds out that you like potato chips and makes sure the pantry is stocked with your favorite kind every time you visit. Have a super quirky habit of putting applesauce on your pizza? Mott’s applesauce is on hand every time she serves pizza when you are visiting!
She even waited a whole five years after we were married before she started dropping subtle hints about wanting grandchildren. And they were subtle hints and not pushy at all. I’m not kidding.
When I need to travel for work, or my husband and I just need to get away, she is the first one we call. She is our overnight babysitter when we need one and has stayed with our kids more than anyone else in our family. She came to our house for over a week at a time after the birth of each baby just to help! And she doesn’t arrive empty handed but with TWO full coolers full of prepared meals and takes care of everything! Who does that?!? A saint – that’s who!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard her say a bad thing or criticize anyone! While my sister has a mother-in-law who likes to joke with her “that jacket with the belt just cuts you in half and makes you look plump,” I have one that only says that I look beautiful no matter what I wear.
Mother-in-Law lottery winner over here!!
With Mother’s Day this weekend, I have to do something for her, right?! A trip isn’t in the budget, and since my brother-in-law just did that one, I can’t even compete. Thanks, Pete!
So, I’m going to go with my favorite, go-to mom gift – flowers! And this year I’ll might even throw in chocolate-covered strawberries. I have been using ProFlowers and Shari’s Berries for years for gifts for Mother’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries and even for my grandmother on the anniversary of my grandfather’s death just to say “I’m thinking about you today.”
From all the years that I’ve ordered (and checked up on my gift!), I know that the flowers will arrive beautiful and the strawberries will be delicious. I *may* have even ordered Shari’s Berries for myself just for the heck of it because I just crave those huge but super sweet berries. Who doesn’t love flowers and gourmet chocolate-covered strawberries, right?!? No one, I tell you!
Two of my favorite gift companies are huge mom fans too, so ProFlowers has designed a huge flower wall and Shari’s Berries has designed a chocolate chip wall in NYC at Grand Central Terminal! If you happen to live or be in NYC on May 6 or 7, you definitely want to check out these masterpieces at Grand Central.
If you happen to live in NYC, you have to go to the event for us and check it out! We’d love to see your photos so please share them with us!
If you don’t happen to be a NYC local (like myself!), you can still join in the #AintMomGrand event activities by visiting their event page and following along! Be sure to include messages about how great YOUR mother is using the hashtag, #AintMomGrand.
One more way ProFlowers and Shari’s Berries want to help celebrate mom is that they are giving you 20% off on any Mother’s Day gift, if you head over to ProFlowers and/or Shari’s Berries and enter the code, GRAND20.
Yes, there is still time to order for mom and get it there on time!!! Go. Order. Now.
After you order, come back and tell us what makes your mother (or you!) so great!!
