Before I had kids I was a bonafide gym rat. One hour of cardio in the morning and one hour of weight lifting during my lunch hour. Sometimes I’d throw in a swim, run by the beach, or some Pilates. Times sure have changed. I rarely have a second alone and when I do find a bit of solitude I have a million things I want to accomplish. Exercise was at the bottom of my to do list.
I got tired of this cycle and made an effort to sneak in exercise whenever I could. If I kept waiting for this magical alone time it was never going to happen. Any exercise is better than no exercise and even a few minutes a day makes a difference. It might take longer to see results but it feels good to get moving again.
Here is how I sneak in exercise during nap time:
This app has been a lifesaver for me. There are tons of options. You can choose workouts depending upon whether you want to get lean, toned, strong, or focus on specific parts of your body. The exercises can be done with or without equipment right in your home. Nothing fancy needed. The app is free and even has built in reminders to get you moving. It’s fantastic.
This game is so much fun. Make sure you shut your blinds or it’ll be good fun for the entire neighborhood too. There is a workout mode that does a decent job of estimating calorie burn. I turn this on when I need to get my heart moving fast. If the kids wake up while I’m in the middle of a workout they usually perk right up and start dancing too.
Exercise TV
I sometimes workout the old school way, standing in front of the TV, and shaking about to whatever happens to be on Exercise TV. You can find Exercise TV on your local cable network, on demand, and even on Hulu. There is something for every exerciser out there. You can do a new workout everyday and never get bored. It’s perfect for a time crunched mom.
How do you squeeze exercise into your life when you’re pressed for time?
