Big Chick’s imagination has really gotten wild as of late. I really enjoy listening to her tell wild stories and I get a kick out of watching her have private conversations with her dolls. I like it until…. she makes me the headlining act.
I can play a lot of games. I love to play music and dance around the house. I’m great at building blocks. I think it’s great to kick a soccer ball around at the park. I’m really, really bad at playing pretend. Well, that’s not entirely true. I’m great at playing “Let’s pretend to take a nap” and “Let’s pretend to give mommy a foot rub.” Unfortunately, Big Chick isn’t really interested in those games.
Big Chick’s birthday was last week and my mom wanted to get her something special. A big girl toy. Whoopee! We scoured Toys R Us like kids in a candy store, and this is what we decided on:
And let me tell you: I love this toy so much that I think I might marry it.
Big Chick plays with it for at least 30 minutes at a time. For those of you who don’t have toddlers- 30 minutes of sitting is nothing short of miraculous.
We also bought her the Deluxe Kitchen Set, the Deluxe Bathroom Set, and the Hopscotch Rabbit Family set. She sets up little tea parties with the bunnies and serves them tea and biscuits. She gives the baby bunnies a bath and tucks them into bed. I know I sound dramatic, but I am so grateful for this play set that I might cry.
I should warn you all that the Calico Critters sets come with lots and lots of very small parts. This toy is not suitable for infants, babies, or young toddlers who still like to put things in their mouths. I personally don’t think it’s appropriate for a child under the age of three.
For those of you moms out there who feel my pretend play pain, this may be just the toy to put you out of your misery. For those of you who love playing pretend with your little ones, this will be a toy that you and your child can enjoy together for a very long time. It’s a win for everyone.
