Put some moisture in the air for those little noses

It is that time of year where the cold and flu viruses are flying around, and now my baby has a cold. As any mom knows, it is heartbreaking when our tiny babies are unwell, and listening to them having difficulty breathing while sleeping is just awful. So my husband and I try options like the amazing Nose Frida (see our review here) and a cool mist humidifier to help her have a restful night.

Humidifiers can help relieve the congestion from common colds, the flu and sinus infections. They add moisture to the air which then moistens your skin and more importantly, your nasal passages. This allows thinning of the mucus in your sinuses, hopefully helping you breathe better. Cool mist humidifiers are preferred in homes where there are children as the water is not boiled, and hence they are safer. It is important to regularly clean the humidifier (easy to do) to ensure its effective use.

Crane Penguin Cool Mist Humidifer

We love our Crane Penguin Cool Mist Humidifier. It comes in three parts- the base, the “body” which holds one gallon of water and is the part that you remove to fill up, and the head, which you can turn around to have the mist spray in any direction. On the highest setting, the water lasts the whole night, and on a lower setting, it lasts even longer. It makes the slightest whisper sound while it runs (we don’t even notice it) but when you turn it to the highest setting you can occasionally hear a kind-of dripping sound of the water filtering through. It has an auto shut-off sensor, so when it runs low on water, the tiny light which is usually green while it runs, starts blinking red. Once there is no water, the light goes red and the humidifier stops working completely. The Crane website claims that it “uses less energy than a household lightbulb.”

It definitely helps with not only our little one’s breathing, but also our own. The air in our home becomes drier in winter when we run the heater, and the humidifier puts much needed moisture in.

Crane creates the humidifier in other characters too, like a duck, frog, and even Hello Kitty. They don’t require any sort of filter and cleaning is super easy using just water and vinegar.  There are instructional videos on how to clean them that you can view here. *You can watch our Baby Gizmo Mama Tip of the Week regarding an important humidifier tip HERE!  For more information on Crane’s products, please visit http://crane-usa.com/products/
