Spotlight Product Review: Joovy Scooter

The Scooter is the newest addition to Joovy’s line of family-friendly strollers! It’s a lightweight-plus stroller weighing in at a reasonable 18 ½ lbs. It offers parents all the style and features they come to expect from Joovy but at a lower price.

The seat is roomy at 14” wide with an 18” seatback and a measurement of 24” from seatback to canopy. With a large seat and a high weight capacity of 55 lbs, our older children (up to about 5 years old) can even hop in for a ride. The seat sports a padded, adjustable and light reflective 5 point harness to keep your child secure. We love the swing away baby bumper bar that is easy to remove and does double duty as a car seat adapter for Graco infant seats to turn the Scooter into a travel system. The adjustable leg rest with two positions and lower footrest are great comfort feature for your passenger

There is recline that goes about half way back for an impromptu nap but does not recline completely flat, therefore, the stroller is recommended for babies 6 months and up (unless using it as a travel system!). The seat reclines with a strap system to any position all the way down to 149° (it is not flat though!).

The unique, ergonomic handlebar is a fun shape (reminds us of bug antennas!) but is not adjustable.  The handles are 39” from ground to where your hands go which is taller than some but if you are a super tall parent you may want to test this stroller out first.  We would have liked to see the handlebars be a little taller for our taller mama friends!  While there is no parent tray, we appreciate that that there is a cup holder in the center of the handlebar for mom.  The two mesh pockets on the interior of the seat are also great for keeping a few snacks or a sippy cup for your little rider.

The Scooter has a large canopy complete with a large peek-a-boo window (with cover!) to sufficiently shade your child. The HUGE basket (especially for a lighter-weight stroller!) holds tons of stuff plus it is super easy to access! The Scooter also has a zipper storage pouch on the back of the canopy for parent or baby essentials.

The Scooter sports 7 ½” wheels in the back and double 5 ½” swivel wheels in the front. The front wheels also have the ability to lock straight for navigating bumpier terrain. We love that there is a one touch linked rear brake bar in the back. One step locks both rear wheels at the same time! The maneuverability is great on the Scooter allowing us to easily navigate this stroller on pavement and smooth surfaces. Even though it can be a bit sluggish on different terrain with a larger child aboard, we recommend locking the front wheels straight to tackle grass, playground mulch and dirt.  All six wheels have sealed bearings for great handling and there is 4 wheel suspension to help give baby a smooth ride.

The two-handed fold is easy to do and the stroller folds down to a rather compact flat fold.  There is a manual lock to keep the stroller locked when transporting.  Of course, we would like to see an automatic lock added for convenience but we are glad there is a lock at all.  We had no problem fitting the stroller into the smallest vehicle trunks.  Unfolding is easy and quick to do.

The Scooter retails for $149, making it a great value in the world of baby gear! With the large basket, canopy and seat, unique handlebar and ability to become a travel system, the Scooter is a great lightweight plus stroller choice at a good price.
