Spotlight Product Review: Maclaren Easy Traveler

Maclaren Easy Traveler

Sometimes the name says it all – The Maclaren Easy Traveler is just that – EASY.  In fact, Maclaren could have called this the Maclaren Wonder – Make Your Life Easier stroller.  The Easy Traveler combines all of the features that make the Maclaren brand top of the line with the convenience of an infant car seat carrier.

This is absolutely one of my favorite baby purchases.  We originally owned a competitor snap and go with our first child, however, after seeing a friend use her Easy Traveler, both my husband and I couldn’t wait to trade in our perfectly functioning snap and go.  Verdict: It was well with the splurge!

When it comes to quality, Maclaren did not compromise a bit. The Easy Traveler has a lightweight – much like an umbrella stroller – aluminum frame and accommodates most standard-size infant car seats.  Simply snap your seat into the carrier, buckle for added safety, and your off.

Maclaren’s product description states that it accommodates the Britax Companion, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio, Graco Snug Ride, Combi Tyro, Evenflo Discovery, Cosco Designer 22, and Eddie Bauer.  Don’t fret if your car seat is not on this list – all you will need are a few easy adjustments to the stroller and it is able to accommodate most other brands.  We use a Baby Trend infant car seat and have had no problem with the compatibility.  A manual is included with the stroller to walk you through any adjustments that need to be made.  We found these clear and concise.

The Easy Traveler uses a fantastic single-handed compact folding system. If you are not familiar with this system it will take a few trials to get it right.  It is a great system that is easy to use but has three steps that must be done in order.  After perfecting the folding system you will be able to do this while holding your baby in the car seat in the other hand.

Unlike other strollers of its type, the Easy Traveler is compact.  In fact, we have found that it folds enough to fit in the trunk while still allowing for plenty of room for your bags or groceries.  Also, because it folds so compactly we often bypass the trunk all together and just lie down the stroller across the floor of the backseat.

The Easy Traveler has tall ergonomic push handles that are a dream.  Unlike other strollers these handles allow myself and my husband to push and walk without tripping over the wheels (we are 5’9 and 6’1).  Furthermore, the wheels are durable and handle city sidewalks great.  Because the front wheels swivel, you will not stall as you’re moving – making a smooth ride for baby and maneuverability easy.  This stroller handles so well that it is easy to push with just one hand.

The stroller also has a large storage basket.  A huge bonus is that this basket is accessible even with the seat attached – unlike other strollers in this category.  The basket is large enough for diaper bags, two adult winter jackets, and even a few grocery bags.  The Easy Traveler also has a carrying handle and a shoulder strap making it incredibly convenient to carry the stroller.  We love this feature as we live on the third floor of our building.  Finally, the stroller has a small clip-on cup / bottle holder.  This is a nice feature but we haven’t really found a great use for it.  Because the basket is so big we throw our water bottles below and don’t have to worry about spills.

In short, The Maclaren Easy Traveler is lightweight, easy to fold, compact to store, and easy to maneuver.  We are extremely pleased with our purchase and have found that it is worth every dollar.
