Spotlight Product Review: Peg Perego Sdraietta Melodia

A bouncy seat is very important for the first 5-6 months of a baby’s life. It’s a great place to set the baby down during the day where the baby can either nap or to just give mom’s arms a break. Bouncers offer a great place to soothe, entertain, lull to sleep, and just let your infant hang out.

The Peg Perego Sdraietta Melodia is a trendy seat for baby that looks great in its mod patterns and solid color options. The Sdraietta Melodia provides hours of fun and music with surround sound speakers and mp3 input, a hanging toy bar, soft fabrics, and it easily converts from rocking to stationary modes.

A great thing about this infant seat is it is both a bouncer and a rocker. The frame allows the chair to gently rock or you can activate the non-rocking stabilizer that allows the seat to stay stationary but allows it to lightly bounce.

There are a few features of the Sdraietta Melodia that make it stand out from the bouncer competition. First, we have to talk about the surround sound! The seat has built in speakers located at the top of the chair for baby to enjoy eight different programmed sounds, including four playful tunes (such as This Old Man) and four soothing tunes (such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). There are two volume options.

Don’t care for the standard pre-selected songs for baby? You’ll love the next feature! The best part of the music option is the handy mp3 input. Just plug in your own mp3 player to the speakers and your baby can listen to your favorite music. Plus, by using a mp3 player, you will have total volume control – not just 2 volume options! Love that! Note: The manual doesn’t list the mp3 input as a feature. You have to look under the seat and find the cord that plugs the sound box to the speakers. It is located at the side of the seat. Unplug the sound box and plug in your own mp3 player and you are ready to go!

Another great stand-out feature is the canopy that allows you to use the bouncer outdoors. The canopy is not only adjustable but also removable. That’s not the only feature that is adjustable because the seat offers 4 different positions with the multi-position backrest and rear ledge (which is the bottom part of the seat where the baby’s feet lay). This adjustable seat offers complete comfort for your baby. Our little testers were always comfortable no matter if they wanted to lay back and sleep or sit up and play. Plus, the seat is large (complete with an infant insert for smaller babies) and accommodated all our larger baby testers up to the weight limit of 20 lbs.

The Sdraietta Melodia also sports a toy bar that offers some visual stimulation but isn’t over the top. The toy bar is detachable and can be moved to different heights for baby by moving the bar up and down the frame. There are three hanging toys: a crinkly butterfly, a cow that moos, and a flower that shakes. There are also two toy spinners on the sides of the bar.

The compact folding system is great and allows for quick and easy portability and travel. This allows us to take the bouncer with us to friends and family easily.

The only feature we think the Sdraietta Melodia is missing is a vibration feature. Since the seat rocks and bounces, we think our babies can do without the vibration though. The Sdraietta Melodia definitely outdoes the competition with many features but you’ll definitely be paying for it. The Sdraietta Melodia retails for a very expensive $199. But for a bouncer/rocker with surround sound, a solid construction, great canopy and a fabulously trendy look – if you have the extra cash, it might just be worth it.
