Spotlight Product Review: phil&teds lobster high chair

We weren’t big fans of clip-on chairs. Until now. The phil&teds lobster has changed our minds about the benefits of a good clip-on chair. We are always looking for a clean and safe alternative to the gross restaurant highchairs but don’t always want to lug around a big, bulky booster seat. If it’s a portable feeding chair that we can also take to grandma’s house, we are in love.

The phil&teds lobster clip-on chair is just that. It’s an unbelievably lightweight (less than 4 lbs), flat-packing, portable clip-on chair that can be clamped to a table in seconds. This extremely travel-friendly chair sports two lobster claw clamps that can grip tables from 0.8 – 3.75 inches thick. Slide the claws onto the table, turn both handles to clamp it down…and voila, you have a safe and sturdy seat for your little one to join the rest of the family at the table. Our little tester loves the lobster so much that he refuses to sit in his regular high chair if he catches a glimpse of the lobster.

The lobster features a lightweight aluminum frame but the chair is still strong enough to hold a child up to 37 lbs. It sports a padded, 5-point safety harness to keep your little one in place and washable fabric for easy clean-up. A unique feature and one you aren’t going to find on other clip-on chairs is that it comes with a removable, dishwasher-safe food tray. We love that the tray gives our babies a clean surface to eat from but wished the tray attached to the chair a bit better. While your babies can’t lift the tray up, one little baby shove from the back of the tray will loosen the tray enough to be pushed to the floor or worse, thrown at you! Not a big deal if you don’t have a mischievous tot. Our one recommendation would be for phil&teds to give the tray a bigger lip to securely attach under the clamps to keep it put.

While the lobster is great for most tables, it will not work on tables with a decorative edge because the clamps won’t have enough space to grab. My kitchen table happens to have that edge so we choose to keep our lobster attached to the center kitchen island. The lobster works fabulously on our kitchen island countertop so that our little guy can eat breakfast and lunch with his older brother and sister. Also, we want to remind parents to be smart when using any clip-on chair and only attach it to a sturdy table. The chair will only be as stable as the table you are hooking it to. Clip-on chairs should never be attached to a pedestal table, glass table or any table that is not sturdy.

One of the best features of the lobster (besides that dishwasher-safe tray and quick set-up) that makes it incredibly travel-friend is the fact that it folds down flat and into its own travel bag. And when we say flat, we mean FLAT! No more traveling with bulky boosters for us! While there is a handle on the travel bag for portability, we would suggest phil&teds add a shoulder strap so that we can swing it over our shoulder if need be. That would make it even better!

The phil&teds lobster is an easy-to-clean, travel-friendly, sturdy clip-on chair that is great for restaurants especially for moms who are concerned about the germ-covered restaurant highchairs. We also take our along to grandma’s house on every visit! You could also use it as a space saving alternative to buying a full size high chair at home. If you are looking for a great clip-on chair, no need to look any further than the new phil&teds lobster chair!

The new model no longer includes the travel bag, but the price has stayed the same.

i own an earlier version of this chair and i really like the updates – especially the tray!! BUT before buying this for travel and restaurants (as i did) go out and look at how many restaurants have pedestal tables! almost all of them do. ALSO, most people’s tables in their homes have an edge design (piece of wood that is perpindicular to the table top a few inches in) and this too renders the chair not able to install safely! so, while i really like it, we can’t use it as often as we had hoped and it’s an… Read more »

I’m going between this one and a Inglesina 2011 Fast Table Chair & the
Chicco 360 Degree Rotating Hook On Chair. Any reviews on those?

I like that it is lightweight and his shirt was blue and white

This chair would be fantastic to bring to restaurants and also to have as a spare high chair at home for playdates/friends. The tester is wearing a blue/white shirt with a while collar! Thanks!

This chair looks very easy to use. I like how portable it is and think the carrying bag is a good idea. I have an older and bulkier version and hate it. The five point harness looks very secure.I love the tray feature on this one. The little tester was in a navy blue shirt with a white collar.

I would love this chair.Being less than 4 lbs makes it super portable. Our highchair is big and clunky. The young tester is wearing a dark blue shirt with a white collar.

I love that its portable and compact with a tray. Tester is wearing a navy blue and white shirt with a number 3 on it

I love that the lobster chair has a five-point harness to help keep the child in the seat. The flat fold wins big points with me, too. Your little tester is wearing a navy blue and white shirt with a 3 on it. By the way, your hair looks great shorter (first noticed that from the videos from the ABC Expo but didn’t get around to commenting until now).

I agree with the demonstration that it would be perftect for Grandma’s house! The little tester has adorable curls!

I love the phil&teds lobster high chair. Is a great and basic item for travel.
The color of the little tester’s shirt in the video review is Blue.

i love how it can clamp to almost any table. takes up a lot less space in the kitchen or dining room. and it doesn’t take up a chair like other high chairs. the tester is wearing a white shirt with navy blue sleeves and a navy blue 3.

I’ve had my eye on this one! We need one so badly.

I think this wonderful. I love how its portable, compact and we would always have it in the car. The tester is wearing a Navy Blue shirt with white accents and a big # 3 on the side.
