Spotlight Product Review: Zooper Bolero 2011

Zooper has the slogan “More than You Think.  Why?  Because there are so many features packed into their strollers that you might not realize just how much you are getting.  Therefore, “More than You Think!”.

The Bolero 2011 is one of Zooper’s full-featured, luxury strollers.  This stroller folds into a compact package but is jam-packed with tons of features for both mom and baby.

Zooper strollers are known for their big, wide seats.  The Bolero is no exception.  It has a wide seat at 14” across with an 18” seatback and a tall seat back to canopy measurement of 27”.  Our 21 month old and 4 year old testers fit in the seat with room to grow.  The seat sports a non-padded, adjustable 5 point harness and a three position, adjustable leg rest.  A removable infant headrest designed for newborn babies is also included with the stroller.

The stroller not only comes with a removable and flip open baby bumper bar, but also a large snack tray.  Our little tester loved the snack tray that features a deep cup holder and a built-in shallow bowl for snacks. (Note:  the stroller can fold with the bumper bar attached but the snack tray does have to be removed!)  While there is no parent tray, there is an included, removable cup holder on the side of the stroller.

We love the seat recline on the Bolero.  It is a one-handed lever that reclines the seat into 4 positions including flat.  Yes, FLAT!  The seat is suitable from birth and up because of this fabulous flat recline.  Another great feature of the seat is the ability to turn into a bassinet.  A bassinet insert is included, along with a sleeping bag/footmuff accessory, which turns the fully-reclined seat into a bassinet.  The bassinet even features a 5 point harness to keep your baby in place!  We show the seat to bassinet transformation in our full video review.

The Bolero features a one-piece, non-adjustable handlebar that is tall at 41” from ground to handle.  Now, let’s talk canopy!  The canopy is fabulous.  First of all, it is huge!  Full-coverage-huge!  We love that the waterproof canopy folds down to the baby bumper bar to block your rider from the elements and acts not only as a sunshade but a rain cover too.  With the included UV sunshade that folds into itself and zips into a pouch, you have a full-coverage system.  It also sports a very large peek-a-boo window with cover on top.  If you want to open up the seat more, you can remove the back panel of the canopy to reveal mesh to allow air to circulate through the seat to keep your child cool in warmer climates.

There is a large storage basket underneath the seat.  While at first glance, the basket is nearly impossible to access with the seat fully reclined or in bassinet mode.  Luckily, we figured out that basket can be easily accessed from the front of the stroller.  There is also a large storage pocket on the back of the canopy for parent or baby essentials.

The Bolero rolls on hard rubber 7” wheels in the rear and 6” wheels in the front.  The front wheels are swivel wheels with the ability to lock them straight individually for tackling rougher terrain.  The stroller also sports all wheel suspension to absorb some of the bumps and give your baby a smooth ride.  The rear wheels have a one-step linked brake system to keep the stroller locked into place.

The Bolero has a very easy push.  We can definitely push it one handed with ease.  With a child aboard near the weight capacity of 55 lbs, you will need both hands to keep it zipping around.  While it can tackle all-terrain with the front wheels locked straight, the Bolero is not an all-terrain stroller.

The fold is an easy two-step process.  We love the folded size is very compact to accommodate smaller vehicles.  With an automatic lock, standing fold and carry handle on the side, Zooper must have been trying to impress us.  Needless to say, we are impressed!

The Bolero is a full-size, full-featured stroller weighing in at a very average full-size weight of 23 ½ lbs.  It has enough weight to give the stroller superb stability but light enough not to break your back putting in and taking it out of your car.  The stroller has a lightweight aluminum frame but features extra strong die-cast at the handlebar lock release, front latch frame lock and the front wheel housing.

If a travel system is what you are looking for, the Bolero comes with a universal car seat accessory.  It is basically a strap to hold your infant car seat down into the seat securely.  While it is “universal”, Zooper does not guarantee that every infant car seat will fit.

If you are looking for a full-featured, luxury stroller packed with features, the Bolero might just be the stroller for you.
