Travel season is upon us which means many parents are packing up the kids and hitting the road. With the mounds of “stuff” that goes with traveling with babies, you want to make sure you have a great travel stroller. Many of the huge, full-size strollers aren’t going to make your travels easier, so you want to take along something lightweight, easy to fold but still packed with features.
That’s why we are talking about the new Valco Baby Snap today. This is Valco Baby’s lightest buggy to date and it has many of the features you’ll need on-the-go.
Since bigger kids end up hopping in a stroller for a quick ride on vacation, we love that the Snap’s seat is large and roomy. The seat is 14″ wide with a 19 1/2″ seat back and 24 12″ measurement from seat back to canopy. The weight capacity of 44 lbs allows even our 4-year-olds to jump in.
The seat boasts an adjustable, padded, 5-point harness with hard-for-toddler-to-escape harness for safety. The deep (one-handed!) recline is easy to do, suitable for newborns and is something you want in a traveling stroller. When the seat is reclined all the way, there is a panel to lift up to expose a large mesh window to allow air to circulate through the stroller which is a nice touch for traveling in warmer climates.
A fabric covered (no mouthful of foam here!) baby bumper bar is included and we love that it doesn’t have to be moved or removed when folding. Did we mention we aren’t fans of a million folding steps?
Let’s talk canopies, right?! The canopy on the Snap is huge! Full-coverage-huge! This three panel canopy will sufficiently shade your lil’ rider and sports a covered, mesh peek-a-boo window to keep an eye on your child. The only thing we’d scrap is the Velcro on the peek-a-boo window and replace it with magnetic closures but we are picky, right?!?
While the handle bar isn’t adjustable, taller parents will appreciate than it’s taller than most lightweights at 41″ from ground to handle.
The basket on the Snap is one of our favorite features about the buggy. For a lightweight, travel stroller, it is huge AND easy to access. Win-win! We were able to fit in an extra large diaper bag and with the tall sides, we were never afraid of the basket contents falling out.
The stroller rolls on 10″, hard rubber (tubeless – no flats!) wheels in back and a double 8″ hard rubber wheel in front. The front wheel is a 360 degree swivel wheel that has the ability to lock straight for rougher terrain. Note: This isn’t an “all-terrain” stroller so don’t expect to be doing any sport-use or tackling the trails with it. That’s not its job.
Valco Baby appreciates a good pedicure or a fabulous pair of flip-flips because the one-step brake is flip-flop friendly and easy to do.
Folding the stroller is…well…a snap! Maybe that’s why they called it that? While it normally takes two hands, in a pinch, we could fold it one-handed if need be. Not only does in fold like a book and keep the seat clean and unexposed but the lightweight, aluminum frame is a dream to travel with. At just under 13 lbs and a carry handle to boot, the Snap makes a great travel companion. The stroller is also complete with an automatic lock (yes, Valco knows how we feel about those manual locks!) and has a standing fold that keeps us happy!
If putting your newborn directly into the seat isn’t your thing and you prefer a travel system option, the Snap does that too. With the sold separately car seat adapter, you can use a Graco, Peg Perego, Britax, Chicco and Maxi Cosi infant car seat with the buggy. Have an older toddler/child that wants to hop a ride occasionally, you can add the Valco Hitchhiker to turn it into a part-time double as well. Some of the other accessories sold separately for the Snap are: footmuff, cup holder (yes, one is NOT included!), rain cover, sunshade and seat pad.
While Valco Baby strollers aren’t usually the cheapest buggies on the block, we were pleased with the $249 retail price on this baby which makes it more affordable for more parents.
If you are looking for a very lightweight, easy-to-fold, stroller with a big seat for travel or everyday, take a peek at the Valco Baby Snap.
Did we mention we have a full Baby Gizmo VIDEO review on the Snap? Of course, we do! It’s what we do! 🙂
