Pinterest is constantly inspiring me to re-purpose, upcycle, and experiment with my crafting endeavors. For months I’ve been seeing creative projects featuring chalkboard paint. Things like this …

Aren’t those amazing projects? I’m swooning over them all!
In preparation for my little one’s arrival I decided to put my own twist on the wonders of chalkboard paint. I wanted to create a chalkboard baby announcement to use in photos and later display in his nursery or on one of our hodge podge bookshelves. First, I scavenged for these funky silver serving platters.
I found them at Value Village and purchased them with my 20% off coupon. Did you know that when you donate a bag of items to Value Village they give you a coupon for future shopping trips? Sometimes it is 20% off your purchase and sometimes it is $3 off of a $10 purchase, whatever it is, that coupon is perfect for projects like this!
Next, I used chalkboard paint to carefully paint the flat, inside portion of the platter. I used a sponge brush since it gave the smoothest texture. I let the platters dry for 24 hours and them gave them a second coat.
Once they were dry I added my announcement details!
You could use this same technique to make any type of announcement or sign … pregnancy announcement, family name, inspiring quote, dinner menu, and more! There is no doubt chalkboard paint in one of my new favorite mediums to craft with! I’m heading back to Pinterest to explore all the possibilities 🙂
