Is the Vitamix 5200 Worth It? | 13-Year Update Review

Sharing is caring!

Thirteen. Years.

That’s how long my Vitamix 5200 has been sitting on my counter. Not tucked away in a cabinet. Not “occasionally used.” I’m talking 2–3 times a day, every single day, for thirteen straight years.

And I’m here with a long-overdue mom-style update.

Spoiler alert:
It’s still my favorite kitchen appliance. By far.

The Backstory

I originally bought this blender when my kids were little and smoothies felt like the only way to get spinach into their bodies without a full negotiation. I remember thinking it was expensive. Like… “hide the receipt from your husband” expensive.

But I also remember thinking: if this thing lasts, it’ll be worth it.

Well.
Here we are. Thirteen years later.

How It’s Actually Held Up

Let’s talk real life.

This blender has survived:

  • Toddler smoothie phases
  • Protein shake obsessions
  • Teenage nightly milkshakes
  • Soup kicks
  • Nut butter experiments
  • Frozen margarita nights

And it just keeps going.

The motor? Still strong.
The blades? Still sharp.
The variable speed dial? Still smooth.

No weird burning smells. No “it sounds tired.” No struggling with frozen fruit. It still pulverizes ice like it has something to prove.

In an era where appliances seem designed to quit after 3–5 years, this thing feels almost rebellious.

What 13 Years of Daily Use Really Looks Like

To be clear, this isn’t a “we use it once a week” review.

We use it:

  • Morning smoothies
  • Afternoon protein shakes
  • Homemade soups
  • Sauces
  • Pancake batter
  • Nut butters

I genuinely think it’s been used thousands of times at this point.

And yes, I’ve replaced the container once after many years (only because I wanted the shorter one that fit under the cabinet). But the base? The motor? Still original.

That says everything.

Is It Loud?

Yes.

It has never been quiet. It is not trying to be quiet. It’s not delicate. It sounds like it’s working — because it is.

But I’d rather have loud and powerful than quiet and dead after three years.

Would I Still Buy It Today?

Without hesitation.

If mine somehow disappeared tomorrow, I would reorder the Vitamix 5200 again. Not a cheaper alternative. Not a trendy newer brand. This one.

Because here’s the thing:

When you divide the cost over 13 years of daily use?
It becomes one of the cheapest appliances I own.

Meanwhile I’ve replaced:

  • Coffee makers
  • Toasters
  • Air fryers
  • Refrigerators
  • Washer/Dryers
  • Hand mixers

But not this blender.

Who Is It Actually Worth It For?

It’s worth it if:

✔️ You make smoothies regularly
✔️ You cook from scratch
✔️ You want one appliance that can handle everything
✔️ You’re tired of replacing blenders every few years

It’s probably not worth it if it’s going to live in a cabinet and come out twice a year.

This blender deserves counter space. It earns it.

The Bottom Line (From a Mom Who’s Used It to Death)

After 13 years of 2–3 times a day, every single day use…

It is still my favorite kitchen appliance.

It’s a workhorse in a world full of disposable appliances.
It just keeps working.

And honestly? That reliability feels rare these days.

So yes.
The Vitamix 5200 is still worth it.

Even 13 years later.
