Chewbeads is a brand of soft silicone jewelry for moms. The materials are safe for babies to chew on (hence the name). They make necklaces, bracelets, links, rings, rattles, and other accessories. All are made from the same safe, non-toxic material.
I love my Chewbeads necklace for a few reasons. First of all, my baby loves to chew on the beads. She enjoys the shape and size of them. Each one is individually knotted off – in case a baby were able to break this necklace (not likely, but anything’s possible), only one bead would fall – not all of them. This is a great choking-hazard-avoiding feature. The necklace is designed with a breakaway clasp for added safety – very helpful with the yanking and pulling phase we are in!
The material is soft on my daughter’s gums and (future) teeth. It is also free of BPA, phthalates, cadmium, lead, and metals. It is easily cleaned with with soap and water – or, even better, in the dishwasher!
It is stylish and trendy – when I wear it with “real clothes” (not my usual workout clothes uniform) people are surprised to learn it’s a teething necklace!
Additionally, it has come in handy while nursing. My daughter is in that stage where everything distracts her as I try to feed her. When she plays with my necklace while eating, it helps her focus and she is less likely to get distracted. I’d imagine the same is true for a bottle-fed baby at this age!
Chewbeads can be purchased at many different locations – mine was purchased at a baby boutique, but Buy Buy Baby carries them, as well as Amazon. Their site offers a great tool to find retailers near you – check it out! I just saw our local toy store carries them. Necklaces range from $16-40, but the company also makes bracelets, pacifier clips, stroller/car seat toys and teethers. They also make a great baby shower gift!
