September 3 is International Bacon Day. Need I say more? I didn’t think so. On to the recipes.
I love grilled cheese in all its forms (white cheese pizza, quesadillas, plain grilled cheese, grilled cheese with fancy bread and cheese), but I never have anything on my grilled cheese except for, you know, cheese. Until now. Behold the Bacon and Guacamole Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Avocado toast is all the rage now, so you can feel good about being on trend when you eat this sandwich.
My husband wanted Five Guys for dinner tonight. Not my favorite place to eat, but they just started serving milkshakes at our local restaurant, so I could totally make this work. Guess what I saw when I read the milkshake menu! You can add bacon to any of the shakes. Whoa. So a bacon milkshake seems simple enough, but in case you need a recipe, I found a couple.
Want a fun bacon food to impress your friends? I love recipes that sound fancy, but that are actually really simple to make and these Bacon-Wrapped Dates with Parmesan fit the bill. Serve them at your Labor Day Weekend cookout—or at your International Bacon Day party.
Looking for a way to expand your kid’s palate (or your family’s menu)? Check out something that looks familiar, but will taste totally different from your usual selection: Brie, Bacon, and Basil pasta. Even though “bacon” is only the second word in the title, this recipe looks so delicious that it belongs in this celebratory list anyway.
And let’s not forget that bacon is a breakfast food. You can make this next recipe fresh in the morning or make it ahead to reheat for breakfast. I present to you the Apple Bacon Breakfast Burrito. With apples and onions as two of the ingredients, you’re even getting some fruits and veggies, right? Right…?
Do you find that your chocolate isn’t addicting enough? Do you have a similar problem with your bacon? Let me help you with that. Why not combine them to make a delicious treat you won’t be able to put down? Clearly, I am not at all concerned about your health here. Just so you know.
Football season is just around the corner, so I tracked down a delicious game-day friendly recipe. Try some Swiss and Bacon Dip at your next football get-together. I like the horseradish variation; there’s some extra kick for you! (Ha ha! Kick. See what I did there?)
Here’s another favorite that’s gotten a bacon upgrade: Cheddar Bacon Chicken Tenders. I love using panko breadcrumbs to bread chicken—it always turns out so yummy and crisp. And there’s no way you can wrong adding delicious bacon and cheddar cheese to the mix. (Look for—or make—a cheddar blend for extra yum!)
I love blue cheese and bacon together, even though I’m not otherwise a big fan of blue cheese. With those two items as ingredients in the next recipe, I found myself immediately drawn to this creamy Blue Cheese Coleslaw (with bacon). Try this yummy side-dish at your Labor Day BBQ or with hamburgers for dinner on one of the last warm nights of summer.
Happy International Bacon Day, folks! Enjoy your celebration.
