After creating our Dream Pantry a few weeks ago we knew we couldn’t stop there. Sometimes, all it takes is one big change to completely transform a space! If your mudroom is feeling a little blah or lacking in function, a fresh coat of paint and a few extra shelves might be the game-changer you need. That’s exactly what we did with our mudroom built-in, and wow—what a difference! With a bold new color and some added storage, it went from a cluttered drop zone to an organized, stylish space that actually makes me excited to put things away (well, almost!). If you’re looking for a simple but high-impact way to upgrade your mudroom, let me walk you through how this easy makeover made such a big difference!

WHY ARE MUDROOMS SO POPULAR?
Mudrooms have become a must-have space in modern homes, and it’s easy to see why! They serve as the ultimate drop zone for shoes, coats, backpacks, and all the little things that tend to pile up by the door. A well-designed mudroom helps keep the rest of the house cleaner and more organized, giving everything a designated spot so clutter doesn’t take over your entryway. Plus, with a few smart upgrades—like extra storage, hooks, and built-ins—a mudroom can be both functional and stylish, making it a space that works hard while looking great!
Our mudroom was looking dull and uninspiring—so we grabbed some paint and gave it a whole new life! In this video, watch as we transform basic shelves into a stunning, organized space with just a few coats of paint. The difference is incredible!

Painting the built-in was a huge improvement, but it wasn’t quite enough—there was still the issue of shoe chaos. No matter how many times I lined them up, they always ended up in a messy pile. So, the next project was adding extra shelves to the bottom cubbies, dividing them in half to create twice the shoe storage. Now, each family member has their own designated space, and keeping things organized is so much easier! It’s amazing how one small change—just a few extra shelves—can make such a big difference in both function and sanity.

More Ways to Upgrade Your Mudroom for Maximum Organization
If you’re looking to take your mudroom organization to the next level, there are plenty of simple upgrades that make a big impact! Here are a few ideas:
- Install wall hooks – Perfect for keeping coats, backpacks, and hats off the floor.
- Add labeled baskets or bins – Great for corralling gloves, scarves, and other small items.
- Use a bench with storage – A comfy place to sit while putting on shoes that also hides extra gear.
- Hang a wall-mounted organizer – Ideal for mail, keys, and school papers to keep everything in one place.
- Use a shoe rack or tray – Helps prevent muddy footprints from spreading through the house.
- Create a charging station – Keep devices powered up and avoid the endless search for missing chargers.
- Incorporate a family command center – A chalkboard or whiteboard for schedules, reminders, and notes.
With just a few of these tweaks, your mudroom can go from cluttered and chaotic to a well-organized, stress-free space!
