Do you ever find yourself struggling with gift ideas for new parents? It’s a much easier gift to give than most think, but you have to think outside of the box! These five gifts ideas require no wrapping paper or ribbon.
1. Deliver A Meal
Parents with newborns spend their days in a state of exhaustion. Cooking dinner is something most do not have the time, strength or desire to do. When someone comes to my door with a meal for my family, it’s as if they’ve handed me a million dollars. If you’re not a cook, order from a local restaurant or caterer.
2. Date Night
Simply call the couple and arrange a night for you to babysit their kids. No questions asked. If you’d like to add more to the package, you can also include a restaurant gift card or tickets to a movie.
If the parents do not have a regular housekeeper or cleaning service, give them the gift of a clean house! Send your housekeeper to their house for a day or buy them a day of cleaning from a reputable company in your area.
4. Laundry Service
Laundry is a never-ending battle for most parents, no matter how young or old their children are, but especially when there is a newborn involved! Most of our dry cleaners offer laundry services, you can buy a gift certificate for the parents to use at their convenience. Or, if you are close enough with the parents simply arrange a day to go to their home to complete their laundry for them.
5. Salon or Spa Appointment
Find out the mother’s preferred salon or spa, book an appointment for her, and then give her all the details with notice you’ll be at her house an hour before her appointment to watch her children.
These are not outrageous gifts and they are not fancy, but you have my word any one of them will be a HUGE hit with any parent new or old!
Sometimes stepping outside of the box is challenging, but it has great reward when you do. Always remember the best gifts come from the heart, not from a box!
