Whalebone Ocean Cottages Outer Banks Review

Sharing is caring!

If you are looking for a place for the family to stay during a visit to the Outer Banks, we have one to show you that we think you’ll like. As people start traveling more, we wanted to share some great places to keep in mind when you are making your travel plans. Today, we are introducing you to the Whalebone Ocean Cottages in the Outer Banks.

WHERE IS THE OUTER BANKS?

The Outer Banks is a beautiful, coastal community off the coast of North Carolina that offers travelers a relief from the crowded beach cities and “Vegas-Style” beach towns that people flock to for Spring and Summer break.

In fact, you won’t find any cities on the Outer Banks, just 100+ miles of wide-open shoreline, charming seaside villages, and a mix of towns brimming with personality and fascinating connections to our nation’s history. Although we’re just a drive away, these barrier islands feel remote. You could say we were socially distancing before there was such a thing.

WHAT TYPES OF ACCOMMODATIONS DOES OUTER BANKS OFFER?

What we love about the Outer Banks is that it isn’t overrun by giant, corporate hotel chains clogging up the beach real estate. Vacationers can choose from an abundance of quaint oceanside vacation rental homes, romantic B&Bs, cottages and even campgrounds. Sure, the Outer Banks has hotels and motels as well, but experiencing the Outer Banks in a smaller accommodation is our preferred way to visit.

Here is our video tour of the Whalebone Ocean Cottages:

WHALEBONE OCEAN COTTAGES ROOM TOUR

For our visit to the Outer Banks for Spring Break this year, we opted to stay in one of the Whalebone Ocean Cottages by Kees Vacation.

The Whalebone Cottages are located in south Nags Head at milepost 16.5. While the Whalebone Cottage Court has been around for decades, they have now been reconstructed into 7 brand new cottages.

We stayed in one of the modern, 3-bedroom beach cottages with 2 Queen bedrooms, a bedroom with a Twin over Full bunk bed, and a sleeper sofa for accommodations for up to 8 guests. The cottage is also equipped with a fully stocked kitchen for cooking when you aren’t going to the many nearby restaurants.

LIVING ROOM & KITCHEN

The living room had plenty of space for our family of five to hang out with the two couches and one love seat.

The fully stocked kitchen has everything you need including all the major appliances, coffee maker, toaster and more.

This is bedroom #1 with a bed, dresser, TV and ensuite full bathroom.

We loved that bedroom #2 had a twin over full bunkbed, TV, dresser and small closet that was perfect for kids.

WHALEBONE OCEAN COTTAGES OUTDOOR AMENITIES

The Whalebone Ocean Cottages have a shared swimming pool for all 7 cottages but it is only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day so we didn’t get a chance to enjoy it.

While our particular cottage wasn’t directly on the ocean, it was just steps away.
