It’s time to re-visit your time at Taco Bell with making a copycat Crunchwrap Supreme dinner with your air fryer.
To be honest, my son was the one who wanted an air fryer in our family. He actually asked for an air fryer for Christmas a year ago because he wanted to make things like cheese sticks and chicken tenders for lunch much faster. He was after the same type of crunch that fried foods at restaurants have but easily made at home. Throwing appetizers in the oven just wasn’t the same to him so he wanted an air fryer.
Yep, it’s a weird thing for a 13 year old to ask for for Christmas but that’s what he wanted. And that’s what grandma got him. I assumed it would be another kitchen appliance that gathered dust in the back of the pantry like the ice cream maker, George Forman grill (yep, we still have one of those and we’ve NEVER used it) and the chocolate fountain.
I’m here to tell you…I. Was. Wrong.
The Air Fryer Saves Me So Much Time
We use the air fryer multiple times per week and honestly it’s great. I’ve formed quite the positive relationship with the air fryer because I can make so many things in it so much faster than with the oven. Kids want crispy chicken tenders? Done in half the time. Air Fryer Donuts for breakfast? Done in less than 5 minutes. Cheeseburger Eggrolls for dinner. Yep, the air fryer does that too.
If you’ve ever been around a 13 year old boy, you’d know that they know EVERYTHING. According to them. In this instance, my son was right. I can admit it. The air fryer is great!
That brings me to my newest Air Fryer Family Favorite – the Air Fryer Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme Copycat recipe!
These are much easier to make then you’d think and the family LOVES them.
When Did Taco Bell First Introduce the Crunchwrap Supreme?
In 2005, Taco Bell introduced their most popular menu item – the Crunchwrap Supreme. It was launched as a limited time item but was made a permanent menu item in 2006. The Crunchwrap Supreme is a crunchy, yet mess-free and crumb-free “taco” that was a hexagon-shaped flour tortilla stuffed with a crunchy tostada shell that’s stuffed with seasoned ground beef, warm nacho cheese sauce, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, cool sour cream — and the whole thing is grilled shut so nothing leaks.
Yep, it’s a flour tortilla stuffed with everything you love about a soft and crunchy taco all wrapped up in one. Seriously, it’s my favorite Taco Bell menu item and it’s many others’ favorite too.
Air Fryer Meets the Crunchwrap Supreme
I knew I could make a homemade Crunchwrap Supreme but just recently realized that I could make it in the air fryer and it had to be amazing. I was right. An Air Fryer Crunchwrap Supreme is exactly what you’d think it would be – DELICIOUS!
Expert Notes & Tips
- The regular Crunchwrap Supremes are usually made with giant flour tortillas that are bigger than normal burrito tortillas. If you can’t find those tortillas, you can do what I did and just use a burrito tortilla and a small taco tortilla on top. It works perfectly well.
- Crunchwrap Supremes are great served with Mexican rice or veggies on the side.
- If you have people who don’t like sour cream or lettuce or tomatoes, you can easily customize your Crunchwrap Supreme to accommodate your family.
Ingredients
- 1 lbs ground beef
- Taco Seasoning
- 6 Burrito-Size Flour Tortillas
- 6 Taco-Size Flour Tortillas
- 6 crunchy tostados
- 1 cup chopped lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1 cup sour cream
Directions
Brown the ground beef. Add the taco seasoning. Cook for 3 more minutes. Remove from heat.
Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees for 5 minutes.
Place a large tortilla on a plate. Scoop 2 tablespoons of nacho cheese sauce and spread in a circle in the center of the tortilla. Scoop 1/2 cup of ground beef onto the top of the cheese.
Top with tostada shell.
Spread 1-2 tablespoons of sour cream on the tostada.
Sprinkle lettuce, cheese and tomatoes on top of the sour cream.
Top with a smaller flour tortilla.
Tightly fold the edges of the larger tortilla in making pleats in a circle.
Flip over onto the pleats as soon are you are done folding to keep it all secure.
Lightly spray with olive oil spray. Set in the air fryer seam side down and cook for 4 minutes. Flip the Crunchwrap and cook for an additional 4 minutes.
Repeat making the Crunchwrap Supremes with the remainder ingredients and cook one at a time in the air fryer.
