Apple Pie Sticks Recipe

Sharing is caring!

I love apple pie. It’s one of those desserts that I don’t really have all that often though because my husband hates hot fruit. Not only does he hate hot fruit but he hates “pie”. Yep, all pie. He can’t really pinpoint it but he just says that he doesn’t like pie. Any pie. Well, I think it is just habit and something he likes to say because he like pot pie. Doesn’t that count as “pie”?

Either way, he doesn’t like pie so I don’t make it very often. This week though I decided that I didn’t want my kids to miss out on pie just because dad doesn’t like it. I thought I’d start with something easy and kid-friendly – Apple Pie Sticks. They are easy to make, easy to eat and since they are sticks that they can be eaten with their hands, they are great for kids.

Ingredients:

1 Package Refrigerated Pie Crust (2 ct.)

1 1/2 cups of Apple Pie Filling

1 Egg

Raw Sugar

Vanilla Ice Cream (optional – but highly recommended!)

Caramel for dipping (optional)

Preparation:

1. Using a food processor, chop up the apple pie filling. It basically turns to applesauce when you mix it a few times in the processor. I used my Vitamix and it worked perfectly.

2. On a floured surface, unroll one of the pie crusts and spread the apple evenly on it.

3. Place the other pie shell on top.

4. Whisk the egg and a splash of water in a small bowl. Lightly brush the egg on top and sprinkle generously with raw sugar crystals.

5. Cut into sticks. If you have a decorative cutter that seals the edges as you cut, that would be great. I did not. I used a pizza cutter.

6. To seal the edges, I lightly pressed down with a fork around all the edges.

7. Place on a greased baking sheet. I highly recommend you use a silpat or parchment paper on the baking sheet. I did not. The apple pie sticks stuck to the pan and some were hard to remove.

8. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-24 minutes or until golden brown.

9. Serve with caramel sauce for dipping or a side of vanilla ice cream.
