My youngest absolutely loves hot dogs. He loves them in all varieties: plain, in a bun, corn dog, pretzel dog, mini hot dogs…you name it, he loves it. One of his favorite requested dinners is Pretzel Hot Dogs or Corn Dogs. Sure you can buy boxed versions at the grocery store but I always feel like homemade is better. Today, I’m showing you how easy it is to make your own Pretzel Hot Dogs IN THE AIR FRYER!
Yep, the air fryer is back again! Come on, it’s just so easy and quick that the air fryer has quickly become a go-to in my house for quick dinners, snacks and basically any meal. Last week, we tackled Air Fryer Toasted Tortellini, Air Fryer Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme and Air Fryer Donuts. This week we are doing Pretzel Dogs.
Why Use an Air Fryer?
- They are basically just awesome because they are fast, healthier and easy to use.
- An air fryer produces a similar crunchy texture to foods that deep frying would result in but with way less fat and calories.
- No oil is required so it is a lower fat, healthier type of cooking compared to deep frying.
- Super easy Clean Up.
- Super quick cooking. Many things cook in less than half the time as your conventional oven.

- 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp sea salt

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER PRETZEL HOT DOGS
Preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees.
In a small bowl, combine water and yeast and stir.
Add the sugar, flour and salt and stir until combined.
Knead the dough with your hands for 1 minute and mold it into a ball. (You’ll probably need to flour your hands to make sure the dough doesn’t stick to them.) Using a pizza cutter or a knife, divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.
Take each piece of the dough and roll into ropes or dough snakes about 15-20 inches long. Repeat with all 8 pieces.
Starting at one end of the hot dog, wrap one dough rope around the entire length and roll the hot dog as you go.
Repeat with all 8 hot dogs and 8 pretzel ropes.
Lightly spray your air fryer basket with olive oil spray.
Cook for 7-8 minutes at 380 degrees in your air fryer and lightly brown on top.
Remove from air fryer and brush pretzel hot dogs with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

You could also add spices or seasonings to either/or the dough/on top of the dough before it's cooked. Garlic/Onion powder/salt, paprika, Zaatar, Everything Bagel, Parmesan cheese, shredded cheese (or narrow slices of cheese and then wrap over it.
These are so versatile. I haven't fixed them yet, it's 3am here. But I'm sure tomorrow, when I pick up groceries and make them, they boys will LOVE them.
