Last week I had the opportunity to visit the new Generations Riviera Maya Resort by Karisma Hotels. Generations was just opened this past February and is located about 25 minutes from the Cancun airport. After my visit to the Azul Beach Resort (another Karisma property!) a couple years ago, I was very excited about this trip to check out this new family-friendly destination.
Since a resort review can get quite lengthy, especially since I pride myself on covering all the ins and outs, I have decided to break it up into a few different posts. Today I’m going to give you a tour of the room that I stayed in. Not only do I have fabulous photos for you, but, of course, there is video. You know how I love myself a good Baby Gizmo video! Later in the week, I will share posts on the Ekokids children’s program, the thrilling but terrifying personal speedboat tour and a total recap of the entire visit.
WHICH ROOM TO STAY IN?
I stayed in an Ocean Front Luxury Jacuzzi Suite that was definitely large enough for a family. The bathroom was spectacular with a walk-in shower (with a rain spout from the ceiling!), separate toilet area, beautiful double vanity and a large Jacuzzi tub.
BONUS FEATURES FOR PARENTS TRAVELING WITH KIDS
Parents will love the large “L” shaped couch that pulls out to a bed and features a sliding glass divider to separate it from the rest of the room. With this divider and the fact that there are two TVs, you could say this is a two-room place because you can separate yourself from the children. This allows parents to stay up a little later watching TV or having a conversation without disturbing the kids.
The area by the couch has a TV and a table for two that was dressed up with a bottle of wine and a fruit plate when I arrived.
In the main part of the room were two large beds (you can always opt for a King bed room!), a TV, a mini-fridge that is stocked with soda, beer and a few snacks (and re-stocked every night!), and large dresser. There were no realtor photo tricks with this photo below – the room was really that big!
ROOM WITH A VIEW
The crème de la crème of the room has to be the balcony and the view. I had a regular balcony and it is important to note that ALL rooms at the Generation Riviera Maya have a spectacular ocean view.
While no one can argue that my balcony and view wasn’t amazing, there are even better rooms with swim-up access. That is right, walk out your balcony door and step right into a pool. For those with toddlers or small kids, there is a lockable gate to the water, but you can always stick with a regular balcony room too!
And if a swim-up room isn’t enough, Generations Riviera Maya has the unique and ahhhh-mazing feature that not only does the ground level have a swim-up room option but so does the second, third and fourth floors too!
If you aren’t completely in love with the resort already (and I’m sure the swim-up photos did that!) – just wait for our total recap post! You’ll be amazed at the rest of the resort!

This place looks amazing and I'm considering staying there for an upcoming vacation. However, we are planning our travel the last week of February and I understand that their pools are not heated. With several children, we need to be able to use the pools. What are your thoughts? It looks like you may have been there just a month later? Where the pools warm enough?

I think the pools in April were perfect. Not cold at all. :)

My husband and I just returned last week from Generations. It truly is everything you have said! The rooms, the view, the food, not to mention a personal butler were all incredible. We had the same type of room on the 5th floor. I could not get enough of the view. Plenty of evening kid-friendly activities. Perfect for families just as much as it was for us as a couple.
