Heather Hemmert

Heather lives with her husband, daughter and son and has learned to accept that Utah is now her permanent home. Before becoming a stay at home mom, she taught elementary school and loves to use that background to create fun activities to entertain her children. Though staying home with the kids is great, Heather has always enjoyed finding more ways she can keep herself sane, including elaborate cross stitch designs and playing with any puppy she can find. She particularly loves to read and write and prides herself in always remaining honest in her posts about life as a wife and mother, even when the truth is sometimes embarrassing.

Look, another school year is ending and I’m just going to lay this all out for you at the risk of sounding selfish: not all thank you gifts are created equal, or appreciated as much as you think they would be. Teachers work their butts off for crap pay, using most of their own paychecks …

I’m one of those people who think the toddler stage is just the worst. The tantrums, the newly discovered (yet clumsy) independence, the food pickiness, the constant talking (“Mom, mom, mom, MOMMY!”), and the potty training… those are just a few of the typical traits I absolutely hate about the age. I feel like I …

Please consult your OBGYN or doctor before beginning any form of birth control. This article is an opinion piece. This is not a horror story about my birth control implant. In fact, this is my success story using Nexplanon, the flexible rod birth control that is implanted in my left arm. I’m not here to …

Okay, that’s it! I’ve reached my limit with the perfect perceptions mommies put out there. I’m done with the “Keeping up with the Jones’” mentality. I’m going to be real and not give a homemade-organic-cloth-diaper-crap what other moms think of me. I’m starting the laid-back Mom Club and for anyone who wants to join me, …

Everyone knows that I’m a fan of wise-use screen time for my kids. Luckily, there are some great shows available that are cute, educational, and/or downright perfect for those moments when TV is just simply the best remedy. However, there are definitely some shows that will begin grating on your nerves. Your kids love them …

There seems to be two main types of expecting mothers: the mothers who see that positive test and run to announce it to everyone within the next day, and the mothers who see the positive and keep it between just themselves and their spouse (maybe a close relative or two). Which one are you? Thanks …

This is an article about why I think screens (TV, iPads, cell phones, etc.) are an amazing gift to parents everywhere. And let me guess, your first thought is something like, “Kids these days are so attached to their screens they never go outside for fresh air and some real creativity!” Okay, valid point I …

Most of us have bad memories of pain and discomfort from our childhood dental visits. The chair was intimidating, the tools made scary noises, and we had to hold our mouths open for so long our jaws hurt. Or at least mine did, since I was prone to cavities. I still get anxious going to …
