Father’s Day weekend is another holiday that expectations are high for me to produce something fabulous in the kitchen. While some years I go with a new dessert, most of the time I stick to an old favorite – Chocolate Chip Toffee Bars.
Dads are creatures of habit and they usually know what they like. Father’s Day isn’t a time to experiment because I don’t want to accidentally make something new that just misses the mark on their day, right? I leave the new dessert experiments for generic holidays such as Labor Day or 4th of July.
This year I made one of my favorite go-to desserts that I knew would be a hit. Chocolate Chip Toffee Bars are a hit every time. Serve them warm with vanilla ice cream and you will instantly be everyone’s BFF.
Ingredients:
- 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 2 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, divided
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 3/4 cup Hersheys Heath English Toffee Bits
Step By Step Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
2. Combine flour and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Add egg and blend well with a stand or hand mixer. Stir in 1 – 1/2 cups chocolate chips and nuts. Set aside 1 – 1/2 cups of the mixture.
4. Press remaining crumb mixture onto bottom of prepared pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
5. Remove from oven and immediately pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over hot crust.
6. Top with 1 – 1/2 cups toffee bits.
7. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture and remaining 1/2 cup chips over top.
8. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup toffee bits. Cool completely in pan. Cut into bars. Top with vanilla ice cream and you’ll be in heaven.
