Cookie dough is one of the most popular food groups in our house. We do cookie dough in all forms – baked to make cookies, raw without eggs to make edible cookie dough and in frosting form.
While there are all types of frosting you can make, cookie dough frosting is a great choice when you want to add a cookie flavor to any cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes, cookies or brownies.
No Eggs Needed
Since you don’t cook frosting, our cookie dough frosting recipe, of course, doesn’t not have eggs. If you’ve ever made edible cookie dough, you know that you don’t need eggs or the baking soda.
Raw eggs aren’t good to consume for risk of salmonella poisoning so it’s a great thing we don’t need eggs for this recipe and still get the same delicious cookie dough flavor.
Is Uncooked Flour Okay to Eat?
The jury is out on this one. Some are dead against consuming raw flour as they say you could be exposing yourself to bacteria, animal droppings, or other contaminants. Even the CDC says, “raw flour hasn’t been treated to kill germs such as Escherichia coli (E. coli), which causes food poisoning”.
Others believe it is such a small risk that they aren’t worried about it.
If you are concerned about the risk of eating raw flour, you are in lucky, this recipe is for you. It’s as easy as heat treating your flour by cooking it in the oven on a baking sheet for 10 minutes.
What Can I Frost with Cookie Dough Frosting?
I’m so glad you asked. There are so many uses for cookie dough frosting. How about adding cookie dough frosting to delicious Hershey Bar Brownies? Or creating a cookie sandwich by sandwiching cookie dough frosting between homemade chocolate chip cookies? Or frost a chocolate cake with cookie dough frosting? The options really are endless.
